KAREL TEISSIG – the Master of Czech Film Poster Collage

Foyer of Bio Oko Cinema, Prague (25. 2. 2020 - 25. 5. 2020) —

Karel Teissig was born on 19. April, 1925 in Unhošť at Kladno, passed away on 1. October 2000 in Prague.
A painter, graphic artist and illustrator. His spezialization was in poster production, small-sized and applied graphics, illustration, book graphics and drawing. With his personal and remarkable style, he earned a place in the so-called Czechoslovak Poster School. He belonged to the most important and prominent artists, producing original film posters in Czechoslovakia (along with Karel Vaca, Zdeněk Ziegler, Milan Grygar and Josef Vyleťal). He designed film posters for the Central Film Rental from 1959 to 1989. The collection of Terry’s Posters contains around 100 posters of Karel Teissig, too. Besides that, we also have 70 book titles and almost 200 examples of his book illustrations.

KAREL VACA: Film Posters: 100th Anniversary Exhibition

Cineme Světozor, Prague (15. 1. 2020 - 15. 4. 2020) —

He belonged to the most significant Czechoslovak artist who designed the posters. Since 1958 he cooperated with the Central lending office of films in Prague, for which he created more than 300 posters before 1988. He was a long-term member of many poster committees and as an uncompromising defender of an artistic author poster he became the leading personality of the Czechoslovak poster school. He introduced many excellent artists to work on film posters and he gave a chance to succeed in this field to many young and talented artists as well. Together with his schoolmates, Milan Grygar, Zdeněk Ziegler and Karel Teissig he became the absolute top among artists who were designing film posters.

Fellini / Kurosawa

Foyer of Aero Cinema, Prague (6. 1. 2020 - 31. 3. 2020) —

This selection is representing posters for the classic films of two of the greatest authors of the silver screen, Federico Fellini and Akira Kurosawa. This poster exhibition combines both domestic, which accompanied the famous films‘ screenings in our country, and foreign works.

Posters for MILOŠ FORMAN’S films (1. 1. 2020 - 20. 3. 2020) —

This exhibition is introducing a collection of posters for the films of the director Miloš Forman.
It compiles both the foreign and domestic posters, that accompanied the films in the Czechoslovak cinemas during the 60’s.
