The exhibition of author graphic film posters, that was created by head Czechoslovak graphic artists in years 1959 – 1989 for Central Movie Rental in Prague.
Important Czechoslovak graphic authors were concerned with film poster designs since the beginning of 60´s.
Thanks to a specific atmosphere in Czechoslovakia, when neither commercial adverts nor market existed, it was possible, that arised film posters that completely differentiated from topical poster production which existed in other European countries (except Poland, where the tradition of author film posters took likewise privileged position as in Czechoslovakia). It was not necessary to display faces of actors and on the contrary they could transform language of their free art into designs, that was often inspired by new art directions of this time such as pop art, lettrism, Czech informel etc. In this time originated film posters of high artistic level.
Because of an existencial reasons (an absence of market with art, impossibility of exhibitions) poster designing and another work in the field of applied art (book covers, illustrations..) was an area for the most important graphic designers of this time. For them was the work in the field of applied arts one of the few possibilities of living. And this gave a birth to a wonder of the Czechoslovakia film poster.
The both exhibitions will present around 120 film posters by these authors: Rudolf Altrichter, Jiří Balcar, Vladimír Bidlo, Bedřich Dlouhý, Ladislav Dydek, Jaroslav Fišer, Josef Flejšar, Richard Fremund, Eva Galová Vodrážková, Milan Grygar, Jiří Hilmar, Vratislav Hlavatý, Alexej Jaroš, Jaroslav Kadlec, Zdeněk Kaplan, Karel Knechtl, Jan Kubíček, Jana Laudová, Karel Machálek, Zdeněk Palcr, Olga Poláčková Vyleťalová, Stanislav Remeš, Teodor Rotrekl, Kája Saudek, Jiří Stach, Břetislav Šebek, Karel Teissig, Karel Vaca, Stanislav Vajce, Josef Vyleťal, Miroslav Vystrčil, František Zálešák, Zdeněk Ziegler.
The Czechoslovakia film poster together with the Polish poster became a legend in the field of applied arts in European scale.
